At the 2023 African Games, Evans Yamoah Cadman made history for Ghana by winning the gold medal in the men’s high jump.
Evans Yamoah Cadman did this by showcasing his extraordinary leaping ability and putting up a standout performance on the continent. Together with other Ghanaians Kennedy Ocansey and Ebenezer Gyimah, Yamoah showed exceptional talent, defeating multiple rivals to leave his mark on the history of African and Ghanaian sports.
Yamoah showed incredible consistency throughout the competition, hitting nearly every height on his first try. He showed perseverance, reaching the difficult height of 2.16 meters, and eventually made it on his second try. Amazingly, he was the only competitor to cross the 2.23-meter mark, earning his well-earned gold medal.
Despite facing stiff competition from athletes like South Africa’s Mpho Benjamin and Hammouda Saad, Yamoah’s exceptional performance propelled him to victory, capturing the attention of spectators and cementing his status as a rising star in the world of athletics.
Notably, this historic win marks the first time Ghana has clinched gold in both the Men’s and Women’s High Jump events at the African Games, with Rose Yeboah successfully defending her title in the Women’s division.
Yamoah’s gold medal win and Joseph Paul Amoah’s triumph in the Men’s 200m final have made a substantial contribution to Ghana’s total medal count at the Games from the athletics team.
Ghana now has a total of 54 medals, consisting of 14 gold, 24 silver, and 17 bronze, thanks to its outstanding performance in the athletics arena.
