Who is Marcelo Weigandt
Marcelo Alexis Weigandt (born January 11, 2000) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays right-back for Boca Juniors.
Weigandt joined Boca Juniors’ junior divisions in 2007, having previously played for Club Villa Ideal. His breakthrough came during the 2018-19 Primera DivisiĆ³n season, when he was an unused substitute in league games against Gimnasia y Esgrima and Newell’s Old Boys.

Gustavo Alfaro chose the defender to make his senior debut in the Copa Argentina on April 19, 2019, against Torneo Federal A’s Estudiantes, where he played the entire game in a 2-0 triumph. Later same month, he featured in the Copa de la Superliga against Godoy Cruz, helping them win the opening leg of the round of 16 away from home.
Luis Suarez’s entrance at Inter Miami provided a significant marketing boost for David Beckham’s team. However, his arrival was insufficient to strengthen the club as they competed for the MLS crown, so they turned to Argentina to sign Marcelo Weigandt.
Tata Martino, the head coach, also sought to strengthen the defense, which is why Beckham authorized, financed, and closed the signing of one of their main targets, Boca Juniors’ right back.
The player’s contract was expiring and there was speculation that he would leave for Miami, but Inter Miami only offered $150,000, while Boca was hoping to get $1 million for its academy player.
Finally, and in the absence of an agreement, Boca extended the contract until December 2027 to a player who is part of the club, but who did not leave for free.
But that was problematic as Weigandt himself wanted to get more minutes, along with the appeal of being coached by Martino and playing alongside Messi, so eventually they came to an agreement.
Miami have now ensured they’ve consolidated a key defensive weakness at right back by signing the 24-year-old with over 100 career appearances for club and country, respectable numbers for someone of that age.
