Messi’s contract at the Parc des Princes expired, and he appeared to be headed for an incredible return to Barcelona as a free agent.
The seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or is rumored to have chosen to join the Inter Miami revolution over an emotional homecoming to the Nou Camp and the riches of Saudi Arabia.
The Times claims that when Messi joins David Beckham’s team, he will earn more than any other player in MLS history.
Messi, 35, has made it clear that he plans to play in the United States someday.
Last year, he stated to Spanish television station La Sexta, “My objective is to do everything I can for the club right now.
“I would like to play in the United States and experience life and the league there, but ultimately come back to Barcelona in some capacity.
“I’m not thinking too far ahead in the short-term and just want to see how the season finishes.”
And according to Madrid-based radio station Cadena Ser, Messi made his first move towards Miami with the purchase of a luxury apartment in the city nearly two years ago.
