Lionel Messi received his fifth Ballon d’Or prize in Zurich, Switzerland in 2015.
It’s no secret that his adversary Ronaldo craves the accolade more than any other in football, having won it the previous two times.
Messi, on the other hand, was the overwhelming favorite for the award following a spectacular 2015. In 2015, the Barcelona attacker scored 48 goals and led his team to five trophies.
“It is a very special moment for me to be back here on this stage,” Messi said upon collecting the award.
“Winning again another Ballon d’Or after being there in the audience watching Cristiano win. It’s incredible this is my fifth. It’s much more than anything I’ve dreamed of as a kid.”
